Opening of the new galvanizing plant at PERI Guenzburg

23. jan. 2020

First dip on Saturday, 18 January 2020, Günzburg, Günzburg

Since the beginning of the year, the huge furnace of the new galvanizing plant at the PERI plant in Günzburg had been in operation. On Saturday, 18 January 2020, the time had come: the total of 350 tonnes of zinc had been melted and, as the first part ever, a large metal PERI logo was dipped into the 450 degree hot zinc bath. With this traditional first “dip” almost exactly two years after the groundbreaking ceremony, the galvanizing plant of the PERI plant in Günzburg started operation.

"We have a clear growth strategy. In order to achieve our ambitious goals, we need modern, efficient production plants", said Leonhard Braig, Managing Director Production & Supply Chain, during the opening ceremony. "Günzburg is the lead plant for scaffolding production in our worldwide production network. Here we will set the worldwide process and quality standards that our customers expect from PERI".

The production of PERI scaffolding systems at the Günzburg site has been running since summer 2017 and PERI had already announced at the opening ceremony of the new plant on 22 September 2017 that it would further expand production capacities. In total, PERI is investing a three-digit million EUR amount in Günzburg. The result is one of the most modern and efficient scaffolding factories in the world.

The galvanizing plant is the core of the PERI plant in Günzburg. Up to now, the scaffolding parts have been galvanized at suppliers throughout southern Germany, which means up to 300,000 truck kilometres per year for transport alone. With the commissioning of the galvanizing plant, the parts are now stacked fully automatically in racks directly on the welding plant and transported to the galvanizing plant via driverless transport systems. There, each article is given its own recipe for automated pre-treatment, which results in a very good and, above all, consistent surface quality.
