Power plant re-development in Mannheim with PERI platform system

Increase in safety and reduction in costs

The safety of workers on building sites is of paramount importance for all those responsible for site operations. However, construction companies are often rather sceptical with regards to observing prescribed safety guidelines especially as any implementation means that direct costs are incurred - thus the general opinion is that profits from the project sink. Time comparisons carried out, however, show that performance of personnel clearly increases when the site is safely and appropriately equipped.

Safety is main focus for PERI developments
The Weissenhorn-based formwork and scaffolding manufacturer, PERI, provides well thought-out safety features for all its systems. During their development, however, not only does compliance with legal regulations stand in the foreground but also the optimization of the time and effort required for their use. Thus, a whole range of new systems and system parts have been developed which successfully prevent personnel falling and considerably increase working efficiency on the building site.

For wall, slab and column formwork together with the appropriate falsework and push-pull props, climbing scaffold and platform systems through to bridge construction, PERI provides all construction sites optimal solutions which are both technically-sound and safe by supplying the required safety equipment and safe operational sequences.

  • PERI safety technology
A good example of this is the PERI UP T 70 scaffold system with its guardrail in advance which ensures members of the assembly team are already in a safe position when entering the next level. For wall formwork, the TRIO Housing has been developed which is a panel formwork based on the successful PERI TRIO and is not only the fastest panel formwork system on the market but also has considerably improved working safety conditions due to operations being carried out from the ground along with the integrated concreting platforms.

For construction of highrise buildings, the PERI CPP Climbing Protection Panel is used which totally encloses the edges of the floors being worked on. This means that site personnel are protected against falling at all times as well as high winds.
    Pre-assembled VARIO platform system
For the re-development of Block 6 at the main power station in Mannheim – a total investment of 90 million euros – the project consortium of Diringer and Scheidel / Bilfinger Berger decided in favour of VARIO GT 24 girder wall formwork with pre-assembled VARIO platforms for the construction of the reinforced concrete walls. Anchor positions and element connections can be safely reached and a safe working position is guaranteed when concreting.

With one-time only assembly at the beginning and dismantling at the end of construction work was reason enough for the consortium to choose this system. Building site personnel have profited from the PERI platform system through enormous time savings and the usual time-consuming assembly and dismantling of individual brackets and planking with each use was no longer necessary. The 250 m² of formwork materials was used seven times in total.
