Long-Distance Railway Terminal, Frankfurt, Germany

SKYDECK on special traveling construction
MEGA construction of a long-distance railway terminal

German Railways invested 209 million € in the long-distance railway terminal at Frankfurt Airport, that forms the hub of the new ICE track between Cologne and the Rhine-Main area.

The construction project was the largest construction site in Germany during 1999, apart from the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.

43 lenticular-shaped, trussed steel frames, with spans of up to 60 m and 200 to 470 t in weight, span over the four railway platforms and cover the whole railway terminal over an area of 70 x 700 m.

  • SKYDECK dekkeforskaling
  • The railway terminal roof was to be strengthened so that a nine-storey construction can be built on top. A massive 300 mm thick concrete slab was to be formed over the trussed steel frames at 15.00 m above ground level.
    Formwork solution
Two 9.00 m high PERI steel constructions, traveling freely from section to section, served as a working platform. SKYDECK with MP 625 MULTIPROPs was used for this. After pouring the concrete the formwork was struck and the formwork carriage taken away to be re-positioned. Then the next slab section was formed with the SKYDECK material.
