MULTIPROP System Safe transfer of large loads from 22 m high
Kwangju, the fifth largest city in Korea, is also preparing itself for the soccer world championship in 2002 with this new stadium. The bird''s-eye-view of the softly curved architecture brings memories of the traditional Korean “Kossaum Nori” games and the nearby Mudeung mountain to mind. The stadium geometry is adjusted to the landscape and can therefore utilize the natural 3 D effects for the best spectator viewing. 60% of the 42,000 seats will be covered by the stadium roof. Altogether 20 stand beams with 18 intermediate and 54 cross beams on V-columns were to be formed.
PERI carried out the formwork planning in the shortest possible time and delivered the systems and the solutions for the demanding project. They enabled the contractors to finish the work as planned.
The long striking times required for the soffits of the stands required six sets of VARIO formwork. The loads were safely transferred by 2,500 MULTIPROP aluminium props which were connected by MRK frames. Two units of VARIO side formwork rounded off the formwork quantities and allowed the formwork crew to work quickly.
The V-shaped columns were able to be constructed in a 4-day cycle. The concreting height of the first cycle was 5.40 m. Then the site worked upwards in 2.25 m high sections. The other sections of the stand beams were constructed in 15-day cycles.
