Telford College, West Granton Waterfront, Edinburgh
Pre-Assembled VARIO formwork ensures blemish-free concrete finish
The original Telford College was located in a number of separate sites around Edinburgh. The new £60m complex will bring together all schools into a single 30,000m² campus. From receipt of the architect’s initial design drawings, it was evident that wall forming would be complicated within the overall scheme and would require detailed technical input from PERI to achieve the required blemishfree concrete finish.
About 1,700m² of VARIO formwork in conjunction with CB 240 Climbing Platforms were specified to facilitate construction of core walls on a number of teaching blocks, a laboratory and sports hall.
The pre-assembled VARIO panels incorporated 2,500mm x 1,250mm PERI Betofilm ply sheets cut down to a 1,220mm width with all panels inverted through 180° between first and second uses and again through third and fourth uses to achieve the features which would match the architect’s vision.
The architects required a plywood pattern layout for the south building soffit, which included the need for the plywood to be turned through 90° and in parallel grids between columns. PERI’s design solution accommodated this by using small infill tables to support plywood in the weak direction with 7.20m by 6.00m wide standard tables fitting between.

Gordon Dunne Managing Director, Dunne Group “PERI’s ability to supply the right solution for all our formwork and falsework requirements has been key to the success of this project. This included MULTIPROP tables and pre-assembled VARIO wall panels which we found to be of exceptional quality”.
