Complete formwork package for an economical construction process
Located on the North bank of the River Clyde, to the West of Glasgow city centre, this £56m development of 261 apartments is the first major residential development to form part of the regeneration of the Clyde waterfront. The £500m Glasgow Harbour project will include new housing, flats, bars and restaurants.
Lancefield Quay is a graduated structure including an eight-storey block facing the river with the side elevation rising from seven to fourteen storeys at the corner. The complete structure is constructed in reinforced concrete with 25,000 m² of slab soffit and 20,500 m² of vertical walls. Thirteen service cores were formed varying in height from 9 to 14 storeys.
Specialist contractor, P J Carey (Contractors) Ltd., were awarded the concrete frame package and subsequently approached PERI for the supply of formwork and falsework for the service cores and floor slabs.

The cores were constructed using VARIO wall formwork supported on CBC 240 external platforms. All the formwork panels and CBC platform decks were pre-assembled in PERI’s fabrication workshop facilitating fast progress on site and resulting in an average of 2.5 lifts per core per week. The complexity of the programme required four sets of core formwork to be in use at any one time. With each set being used up to 30 times the selection of the correct plywood was critical to achieving a uniform finish throughout the contract. PERI Betofilm was successfully used on all external face shutters. |

MULTIPROP tables were used to construct the floor slabs. Two sets of equipment were required to be used to complete the full area. Because of the speed of construction a special ‘C’ Hook had to be fabricated to ensure quick and safe removal of tables from two levels below working level. |

This project was completed ahead of the original programme and is testament to the benefits of PERI’s service package including, consultation, design, supply and the preassembly of formwork. |
