CTRL Contract 250, Cut and Cover Tunnel, Dagenham, East London, United Kingdom

PERI´s ‘Ready-for-use'' service provided
Blemish free finish for every structure

This 500 m long cut and cover tunnel is part of the £7bn Channel Tunnel Rail Link from Folkestone to London – currently the biggest construction project in Europe. After completion, the route will allow speeds of up to 300 km/h. So travel times from Brussels to London will be as short as 2 hours.
Group 7 concrete was used on the project, with over 70% ggbf´s, generating very high pour pressures.

PERI´s range of plywood enabled the right finish to be achieved for each section of the job. Pre-fabricating the formwork off-site at PERI''s fabrication warehouse allowed the contractor to concentrate on his site work and tunnel construction more effectively and efficiently, calling in equipment only when ready for its use. PERI´s components and systems covered all the formwork requirements on this site.

Where a fairfaced finish was called for formwork panels were made with a double skin of ply thus enabling the face sheet to be fixed from the rear and leaving the form face clear of nails or screws. 21 mm MDO was used as the ply face giving a consistent even matt finish.
