Eisenbach Valley Bridge, Germany

Bridging with system
Foundations, piers and superstructure

The new IC and ICE railway line of the Deutsche Bahn AG will connect Frankfurt, the largest Middle European airport, with every direction in the globe and in the medium term will replace uneconomical and environmentally polluting short haul flights.

When the line from Cologne to Frankfurt/Main is put into commission – planned in 2002 – the travelling time from Cologne to Frankfurt will be shortened to less than one hour.

A part of this total project is being constructed between Nomborn and Girod, a 150 m long bridge that will span the Eisenbach valley with three sections.

The Joint Venture decided on PERI systems for constructing the whole project:
TRIO was used for the foundations and bridge piers. Result: fast use because of the high adaptability on the foundations as well as fast concreting phases and high accuracy in conjunction with the CB 240 climbing brackets on the piers.

  • The superstructure is constructed as a hollow box on falsework in three sections (53, 50 and 33 m). Moving the formwork tables of the complete superstructure is mastered by the site in only three days.
The technique selected proved to be especially effective in moving the external tables: rollers were mounted on the SRZ walings on which the units could be quickly moved by means of motor winches.
